9 years ago today, I will never forget. 9 years ago today I was 3 months away from getting married. I was working at a private school with the before and after school program. Since classes had started it was time for me to run home, change, the usual, I had to watch my nephews for a bit later on that day. I was maybe 10 minutes or so from school when I was bopping along to the radio in the car, when a news report broke through stating that one of the towers of the World Trade Center had been hit by a plane. My jaw dropped, once the light changed I made a U-turn and headed straight to my brother's house. I asked my sister-in-law if she had heard and that's when we turned the TV on and saw it, the smoke all those people running away, and all those brave law enforcement, firefighters, and other emergency personnel running towards the towers. I called my now husband, he was getting ready for class and told him and then with in a few minutes of the conversation the 2nd tower was hit. Everything had frozen, I couldn't believe it. Next thing the Pentagon was attacked. The school I worked at had a lot of parents that worked at the military bases in the area. I wasn't able to go because I had my nephews and the frenzy would have been scary for them.
I think about what happened everyday. I don't want to push it off to the side and pull it out once a year, it's not Christmas decorations. I think that we as a nation should never forget, I wish we had the unity like we did in the days and weeks following. But, we're not. Please have a moment of silence, say a prayer or something for these people and our military who took the fight back on to their soil, but don't wait for just today do it more than once a year. They deserve that much.
Thank you to all our service men and women who are fighting this fight for us. And for the military families, thank you as well.
Have a blessed day.
