It’s been a while

On the 27th the area I live in got hit by a pretty strong ice storm. It started on the 26th with some rain. I had taken lil man out to Wal-Mart to get a few things and by the time I got home it started to rain with sleet mixed in to it. It proceeded to worsen as the night progressed and between 2 am and 3 am we lost power, it came back on around 9:30 am and close to 8:45pm we lost power and up until 7:30 pm on the 31st. It was great being able to sleep in my own bed after sleeping on the couch and an air mattress. There are people in the area I live in still without power. Some it’ll take 2 weeks to get it back. There have been utility crews from Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, & Georgia coming to get the area back to living standards. The bootheel of Missouri is worse off than we are, no power and water in some areas.

During this past week I’ve been more than a pain with my husband. He’s been wonderful with me, all the while he’s been working and he has a cold. The 30th we made a break for Memphis, TN. My first time leaving lil man with a sitter. Of course I’m going to worry, but I wouldn’t have left him with my friend. She was without power also, so she watched him at her mother’s house (who also didn’t have power, but there was a fireplace and hot water, same conditions at my house). We went to the AC/DC concert (that’s another entry) and when we came to pick him up, it was a full house. My friend, her mom, her dog, her sister, and her 7 year old nephew. We were told that her nephew said that lil man could be his little brother whenever he wanted. It was so cute. But I survived and they said he was really good and would do it again. That makes me happy that and I have people I can trust to watch him.

I’m very thankful for the utility workers who worked in my neighborhood and pray that they continue to work safely in restoring the rest of the area.
